day (WAND)
30th October 2025

JOIN US for a month-long virtual spotlight this October on 'Applied Neuroscience in The Brain Economy', featuring a programme of initiatives led by ANA Chapters, designed to advance human flourishing alongside economic resilience.

What does this mean?

  • Brain health – enabling individuals to reach their full potential

  • Brain skills – the capabilities that help realise this potential

  • Brain capital – the combined value of brain health and skills for societal well-being

The month culminates on 30th October with WAND - an event celebrating brain health, brain skills, and brain capital as core assets for life!

"Brains are indispensable drivers of human progress. Why not invest more heavily in them? We seek to place Brain Capital at the centre of a new narrative to fuel economic and societal recovery and resilience." (Eyre et al., 2021)

The Brain Economy concept was first proposed by Harris Eyre and colleagues in the Molecular Psychiatry 2020 paper A Brain Capital Grand Strategy: Toward Economic Reimagination (DOI: 10.1038/s41380-020-00918-w) and later elaborated by Harris Eyre in the Neuron 2021 article Building Brain Capital (DOI: 10.1016/j.neuron.2021.04.007). Relentless work by Eyre and colleagues has seen the concept embraced by global institutions, including the OECD, the World Economic Forum (WEF), and more recently the G7, culminating in the Canada Brain Economy Declaration (June, 13, 2025). Stimulating momentum elsewhere, such as the UN Science Summit forging The Brain Investment Agenda, signalling The Brain Economy as a strategic priority in economic resilience.

What is Applied Neuroscience and how can it help you and me?

Neuroscience is constantly producing remarkable advancements in our understanding of the brain and nervous systems cellular and molecular structure, function and processes that dictate our every thought, our thinking about thinking, action and behaviours.

In recent years there has been growing interest in findings from neuroscience research, beyond the domain of the natural sciences. Translating and applying the research into a societal context for lasting improvements in human health, the economy, and society as a whole.

The role of language and critique in such Science Communication, bridging discoveries with demand, relies on an evidence-base that is translated ethically and free from dominant interests and ideologies. ANA's vision is empowering ethically applied neuroscience for global impact.
